Although they are not used the extent they once were, RGP contact lenses are still used, and in fact, necessary, for certain eyes.  Eyes mishaped by disease, trauma, or surgery may be in this catagory.  Also, they can be more comfortable for patients with dry eyes or large amounts of astigmatism.  Bifocal RGP's provide possibly the best vision in bifocal contacts.
